About MedicLights

MedicLights advocates personal-use intranasal light therapy systems as complementary to other medicines. The technology combines effectiveness as well as convenience and low cost to give people more ownership over his or her own health.

MedicLights is based in Toronto, Canada. It is in the process of accumulating more evidence to support the efficacy of the intranasal light therapy method for healing by restoring systemic homeostasis through the immune system, circulatory and autonomic neural system. It is also working with various relevant lifescience research parties around the world.

The MedicLights team has expertise in medical science, biochemistry, electronics, software, mechanical engineering, manufacturing management and technology start-up and growth management.

It works closely with MaRS a non-profit, government-related organization in the Province of Ontario, Canada to further its cause and advance the commercialization of its devices.

A Bit of History

Blood irradiation therapy has been around for a good number of years, with its origin landmarked by a paper by Russian medical scientists on the merits of intravenous (injecting into the vein) blood irradiation published in 1981. For us, it all began in the mid 1990’s when we started experimenting with our makeover of that original technology to make it non-invasive.

The basis of our invention goes like this: The nasal cavity (beneath the thin mucous membrane) is already known to be concentrated with rich blood vessels. So why not illuminate the nasal cavity with the same light, which theoretically should almost be the same as irradiating intravenously. And yet it is non-invasive. The main challenge has been to make a device small and comfortable enough to achieve this. It would take us into the mid-2000′s before we could make it small enough to insert it comfortably inside the nostril.

This therapy may still be a novelty in North America but in a growing number of countries, blood irradiation therapy is becoming common-place, particularly in China. It is estimated that 10 million Chinese have purchased similar intranasal light therapy devices not only to keep off hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, dementia and other circulatory and neural diseases, but also simply to live longer and healthier.

Management

The operating team is headed by Lew Lim, co-inventor and founder. Lew has many years of technology innovation experience around the world, including in the Silicon Valley, California. His experience not only covers light therapy technology; it also covers manufacturing, telecommunications over internet protocols, ultra-wideband applications, corporate finance, capital markets and accountancy. He completed his education in Telecommunications Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley with distinction, MBA at the University of Sheffield, UK, Chartered Management Accountancy in UK. He has also filed several patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Other members of the team comprises engineers, doctors, and medical scientists with many years of experience, who have put together in the Intranasal Light Therapy device and investigated the evidence.
